Scorchio!

At the time of writing, the UK temperature has been regularly hitting the high twenties and beyond. And, with all this wonderful sun and warm weather to enjoy, you’re probably wondering how to make the most of it.

A staycation is the perfect answer. It means you don’t have to get on a plane, spend loads of money in expensive foreign countries or deal with the living nightmare that’s baggage reclaim.

Have you thought of Taunton for your next family break? It’s the largest regional town in Somerset, and has a vast number of attractions for families set in stunning surroundings.

Here’s some of the best.

Go trekking on the Quantock Hills

If you’re into horse riding or just love exploring the beautiful Somerset countryside, Quantock trekking is a brilliant day out.

They have horses you can ride (around twenty-six, in fact) and can be found in a beautiful area not far from Taunton. Price are very good too, which means this is an affordable day out that the entire family will love.

Grab a piece of the cricket action

Whether you want to head to this beautiful cricket venue for a match or you’re heading that way because it’s being used as a wedding or birthday venue, Somerset County Cricket Club will be a memorable visit.

Often referred to as a ‘jewel in the Somerset crown’, their cricket club is a great location for fans of the sport and anyone who simply wants a relaxing day watching two teams play (it’s a great excuse for a picnic, after all!).

Entertain yourself at the Brewhouse

For families who want something a bit more lively, the Brewhouse is the perfect place to catch live music, dance acts, musicals and comedy gigs.

They hold cinema nights, too, which is a great excuse to grab a beer and comfy seat, and indulge in one of your favourite flicks.

Head back in time at the castle

Taunton Castle is a Grade 1 listed building that has also been home to the museum of Somerset for over one-hundred years.

Dating from the 12th century, the castle is a must visit for curious families and anyone who likes a spot of history during their holiday. It has been extensively reconstructed over the years, and is in fabulous condition. A brilliant day out for all!

We hope we’ve whetted your appetite for a trip to Taunton. It really is one of those hidden jewels in England that you probably didn’t have on your list.

A staycation is a brilliant way to occupy the kids and chill out yourself during these last few weeks of summer, so get out there and explore the best the UK has to offer!

Days Inn Taunton is conveniently located on the M5, making our hotel the perfect base for exploring Taunton. On site, you’ll find a McDonalds, Costa Coffee and various restaurants and shops.
