Planning the perfect 2020 getaway

30 December 2019

Are you waiting for winter to end and so that you can start looking towards long sunny weekends in the spring and summer?

If you’re thinking of going away for a short break this year, then a staycation to one of the following destinations is a smart choice.

Here’s how to plan the perfect getaway with Days Inn!

A few miles north of the Scottish border is the town of Lockerbie.

Eskrigg Nature Reserve is a peaceful seven-acre wildlife park based around a mixture of habitats including streams, grassland, and woodland maintained by the Lockerbie Wildlife Trust. You can spot Red Squirrels, Tawny Owls, and Kingfishers while mountain biking or dog walking one of the routes around.

Annandale Distillery has been through 3 eras of whiskey making, the most recent of which involved a 2014 multi-million-pound renovation to bring the facility up-to-date. You can take an informative tour, have a tasting session and grab some malts, blends, and merchandise in the on-site shop.

The Sevenoaks district is packed with history and in close proximity to the city of London. Our Days Inn hotel is the perfect place to situate you and your family for a short break of exploration into the rich culture of this beautiful area of Great Britain.

A visit to the Sevenoaks District would not be complete without a visit to Knole and Knole Park. This National Trust country house has over 400 years of history, belonging to a series of Archbishops from the 15th to 17th centuries, and was then transformed to an aristocratic treasure-house.

Ightham Mote is another National Trust site, and a well-known attraction near Sevenoaks. If you’re visiting the region for its history, then this is well worth the trip, as many of its contemporary features have been left unchanged since it was built in the 14th century.

Just a short drive from our Days Inn hotel and you’re in Kendal, a small Lake District town packed with culture and heritage. Take a stroll around the famous Kendal castle ruin before exploring the boutique shops and quaint pubs.

Another must-do near Kendal is the Lake Windermere cruise which attracts visitors from all over the world annually. Take in the breathtaking scenery and inhale the fresh air around you as the calming cruise sails you from Lakeside to either Bowness on Windermere or Ambleside. Both towns are well worth a day trip in themselves, boasting a local charm and lots of dog-friendly pubs and cafes.

If you’re thinking of something to do with the little ones in Bowness on Windermere, then a must-visit is The World of Beatrix Potter. Take a slow stroll around the exhibition, garden and gift shop before relaxing with a hot drink and slice of cake in the themed tearoom.
