Planning a UK trip in 2021? Here’s what to consider

8 January 2021

It’s no doubt been difficult to tick off those destinations on your travel bucket list during 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19 not just here in the UK but all around the world. The pandemic may have changed our lives for the foreseeable future but don’t let that put you off making up for lost time during 2021!

Why not use your time in lockdown wisely by planning a comeback trip right here in the UK? Before putting pen to paper to plan your staycation, you’ll want to consider the following…

The destination

As our fight against Covid-19 continues, you may have to plan your UK trip a little differently. At present, the UK is currently in national lockdown, which means travel for leisure is not permitted anywhere in the country.

Whilst no one yet knows when this lockdown will come to an end, its conclusion is likely to see tiered restrictions resume which will vary from area to area. Before deciding on your destination, check the local rules and restrictions that may apply during your stay.

The travel party

Again Covid-19 restrictions may influence other areas of planning, including who you can travel with. The rule of six has been instrumental in the government’s battle against Covid-19 and is likely to be reinstated once lockdown ends. This may mean that you’re restricted in terms of who you can travel with if you are planning a UK trip with another household.

The itinerary

Preparing a suitable itinerary is a must, with the finer details all depending on your destination, who you’re travelling with and of course your travel dates. Those travelling with younger children during the spring and summer months may want to explore outdoor attractions. Whilst those travelling alone or as a couple are likely to enjoy yet more entertainment after dark.

When planning your itinerary include a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities and attractions. Even during the warmer months, the great British weather can be extremely unpredictable. Don’t risk your trip being ruined by rain by devising a varied itinerary.

You should also check admission details of each activity or attraction closer to your departure. Many organisations have had to change the way they operate to ensure they are safe for the public.
