The biggest event to take to the skies of the UK’s North East, The Sunderland Airshow 2014 takes flight from the 25th – 27th of July at its long established location near the Roker and Seaburn seafronts. Veterans returning for the shows 26th year include the Red Arrows, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, The Blades and The RAF Falcons. For the aviation enthusiast, Europe’s largest free annual air show is a weekend not to be missed.
First held in 1988, The Sunderland Airshow was originally intended as a one off event. However, its potential became abundantly clear when spectators arrived in their droves to take in the aviation displays. Last year saw the shows 25th anniversary and over 250,000 visitors in attendance to celebrate in style. 2014 promises to be just as spectacular with a line up set to include the following confirmed display teams:
The Red Arrows: Air show veterans the Red Arrows return with their BAE Hawk T1 aircrafts and their trademark diamond nine formation.
Gerald Cooper Xtreme Air: Multi title winning pilot Gerald Cooper flies his purpose built Xtreme Air XA41 aircraft.
The Blades: Civilian aerobatic display team The Blades are made up solely of former Red Arrows pilots, flying the Extra EA-300 series designed specifically for their trademark daredevil manoeuvres.
The Breitling Wingwalkers: The Breitling Wingwalkers perform breath-taking displays as the world’s only aerobatic formation wing walking team.
The Twister Duo: Returning with their unique display, The Twister Duo fly their Twister aircrafts completed with pyrotechnical capabilities for some stunning dusk entertainment.
Also appearing will be a host of RAF Teams including; The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, RAF Tutor, RAF Tucano, RAF Falcons and RAF Typhoon.
Though the Sunderland Airshow is a free to view event, there are hospitality packages available for purchase. Premium Seating tickets giving access to seating in a private enclosure with premium toilets and a private pay bar can be purchased for the Saturday or Sunday for £12.50 per person. For Friday’s launch night, tickets for the Take Off Lounge Marquee are £25 per adult, £15 per child, including private viewing, private pay bar and a buffet supper. The Spitfire Lounge offers reception drinks, buffet lunch, and afternoon tea as well as private viewing for £60 per person whilst the Lynx Lounge is the ultimate air show treat. For £100 per person experience Prosecco and Canapes on arrival, a 3 course seated lunch and a vintage afternoon tea, on top of all the VIP highlights and the opportunity to meet some of the display pilots.
