With National Parks Week just around the corner, we’re focusing on one of our most beautiful hotel locations, Kendal in the Lake District, to tell you about some of the most exciting events happening in this stunning part of England. Unique for its diverse landscape of mountains, lakes, woodland and farmland and an abundance of wildlife, the Lake District is one of the most popular staycation choices for many UK holidaymakers this year and there’s no wonder why.
There’s every opportunity for the whole family to get involved, whether it’s to explore the great outdoors, view its habitant wildlife, marvel at its scenery or simply relax amongst tranquil surroundings.
Running from 30th July until the 5th August, National Parks Week is a celebration of the UK’s award winning landscapes that have inspired many sports enthusiasts and athletes over the years. The week aims to get more and more people into one of the 15 National Parks and get active in this sporting year.
Below are just some of the exciting events happening in the Lake District during National Parks Week and throughout the summer:
Dove Cottage was once the home of William Wordsworth; why not take the children along this summer and get involved in a number of activities exploring both real and imaginary, past and present.
Kendal Calling once again comes to the Lake District this summer. The award winning festival features a mix of contemporary music and art as well as traditional rural entertainment. On the lineup this year is Dizzee Rascal, Maximo Park, Feeder and We are Scientists.
Enjoy a relaxing cruise on England’s most beautiful lake, Ullswater. On Tuesday evening, as part of National Parks week, the cruise will be held from 6.40 pm until 7.40 pm with commentary by national park authority rangers.
Be a sporting hero this summer by taking part in the Windermere Relay. The relay is not a race as such, but a chance for the whole family to form a team and take the time to enjoy the Lake District sights, stamping their relay card at different checkpoints along the route. The challenge is to collect as many stamps as you can from the relay checkpoints and there are some fantastic prizes available!
Another official National Parks event; take a leisurely stroll from 10.30 am until 12.30 pm around Hawkshead. Enjoy spectacular views and learn about its rich history, for free!
