August Bank Holiday Events in Chester

The August bank holiday is finally here and to celebrate the end of the summer in style, why not come to the city of Chester? There’s plenty to see and loads going on; whether you want to take a boat trip around the city, visit the award winning Chester Zoo or wander around one of Cheshire’s finest gardens there’s something for everyone no matter what the weather.

This bank holiday there is also a number of exciting events taking place from music and food festivals to major sporting events. Below are just some of the best events taking place near to Chester this coming weekend:

Wirral Food and Drink Festival

Held at Claremont Farm, 15 minutes away from us in Bebington, Wirral Food and Drink Festival, now in its 7th year, will be held on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th August. Expect to sample some tasty food with specialist stalls and cookery demonstrations.


The UK’s no.1 dance festival returns for three days this bank holiday weekend on Daresbury Estate, just 15 minutes from our hotel. The festival, now in its 19th year features some of the biggest international DJ’s and artists including deadmau5, Tiesto and David Guetta and will be held from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th August.

Cheshire Game and Country Fair

Held at the Cheshire County Showground near Knutsford, Cheshire Game & Country Fair takes place from the 25th - 27th August, and will involve an action packed arena with falconry, equestrian, archery, scurry racing and sheepdog displays. There will also be plenty of arts and craft activities and a number of regional producers selling delicious food and drink. The Showground is 25 minutes away from the Days Inn Chester.

Oulton Park Gold Cup

Oulton Park Circuit, around 30 minutes from us, will be hosting its signature event this bank holiday weekend, the Gold Cup. Race fans from all over the UK can enjoy a jam packed programme on the 26th and 27th August including with single seaters, sports, touring and saloon cars, and spectators are encouraged to come dressed in period clothing!
