A New Year, a New Winter Inspired Trip?

This time of year a majority of people have been spent out by the Christmas and New Year festivities and socialising, but it can also be a great period to get away before going back to work. This time of year offers great winter destinations throughout the country, offering opportunities for long relaxing walks or something a little bit more wintery such as skiing or snowboarding, a majority of cities have events going on throughout the year so there is always something to keep you occupied if you are thinking about a short break this January at the Days Inn hotel motorway services, which are located on popular road links throughout the country.

If you were more inclined to pop on the wellington boots and wrap up warm then a walking break may be a good idea, no matter where you stay in the country there is always somewhere near by or a national parkland that can be easily accessed. Kendal is a top place for walking, sometimes referred to as the ‘gateway to the Lake District’. The area is very picturesque, located next to the Lake District National Park, offering the countries highest peak Scafell Pike as well as a wide range of natural habitants, plant and wildlife.

Skiing can be enjoyed within the UK, not only on the continent; there are a handful of locations that offer real snow as well as artificial snow options. For a real skiing resort, Scotland is the place to visit due to the climate and unique hilly geography, the Nevis Range offers a good place to ski, as well as the Glencoe and Cairngorm slopes. If you want a place to stop en route, then the Days Lockerbie and the Days Inn Hamilton offers a solution on one of the major routes to Scotland.

The Lake District is Cumbria we mentioned previously is great for walking, but at certain times of year - snow weather permitting, this turns into a great spot for skiers. For Indoor options that are a bit more accessible to people further south in the UK, the Tamworth Snowdome is a top option, located around a 30 minute drive from the Stafford Days Inn hotel. The Snozone Milton Keynes indoor snow slope offers similar facilities, which is better located for people coming from the south, the Watford Gap services station makes this an ideal option.
