If you are a big fan of the movies, or of television you may have noticed a few places a little familiar or recognisable. The UK has played host to a number of the worlds best loved and most memorable films, here at Days Inn we’ve done a rundown of some of the best filming locations that you can visit across the country that aren’t too far away from our hotels if you were considering something to keep you entertained.
Highclere Castle is the stately home as portrayed in current popular television program Downton Abbey, open to the public at certain times of the year, you can have a look around parts of the house and experience a real Downton experience. Locate in Hampshire, it’s an ideal choice on route to southern parts of the country, and not too far from our Southampton Days Inn.
Wales is an excellent location for a lot of Doctor Who scenes, filmed by BBC Wales, there are a lot of locations dotted around Cardiff and the surrounding areas, which makes it good for any sci-fi fan. En route to Cardiff, Magor is the location of our hotel, which is around 30 minutes from Cardiff.
The 2005 film Pride & Prejudice is filmed primarily around Chatsworth House, otherwise known as Pemberley, amongst other outdoor locations shot and British stately homes. Chatsworth House is considered one of the most popular and visited homes in the country and is located just west of our Chesterfield premises.
The cathedral chapter house is the venue for Professor McGonagall’s class teaching the young wizards to turn animals into water goblets in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter series. One of the most spectacular is Durham Cathedral, one of the UK’s finest Norman buildings. Durham’s elegant cloisters became the snow-covered quadrangle, where Harry sets the owl flying in the first film. We have a hotel located in the outskirts of Durham making this a perfect place for a day visit.
Featured in the final scene of the Di Vinci code, Belvoir castle has also featured in other small British films, located in Leicestershire in the centre of the country.
