Flying into 2014 under the new name of the Sunshine Music Festival, the previously known Upton Festival lands in the county of Worcestershire this August. Taking place from the 22nd to the 24th, its small band of organisers aim to bring three days of top class, family friendly entertainment to the last bank holiday of the summer.

Music at Sunshine; Stage One

With its musical delights spanning two stages the Sunshine Music Festival showcases an eclectic mix of genres with something to suit all tastes. Headlining the main stage this year are Liverpool based band The Farm who rose to national fame in 1990 with the indie anthem “All Together Now.” Disco legends Boney M are also set to dominate the main stage this year with original vocalist Maizie Williams still captivating audiences. 50’s superstar Marty Wilde will perform smash hits such as “Teenager In Love” and “Rubber Ball”, pop icons Showaddywaddy bring their 50’s music with a 70’s twist and Kenny Thomas, a chart hit in the 1990’s caters to fans of soul. All this alongside pop, rock, new wave, motown and ska acts makes for a weekend covering a host of musical bases.

Stage Two

Headlining the second stage are psychedelic rockers Dr & the Medics, best known for the number one smash hit “Spirit In The Sky”. Supported by a number of local bands and artists, stage two aims to highlight up and coming talent with acts hailing from places such as Worcester, Cheltenham, Cambridge and Hampshire. Also taking to the second stage are a selection of tribute bands including RIFF/RAFF, a tribute to Ozzie rockers AC/DC, The ZZ Tops, a homage to the famously bearded Texans and Cloudbursting, a five piece band bringing the music of Kate Bush to this year’s Sunshine Festival.

Variety and Family Entertainment

A third variety stage hosts further tribute and cover bands, with classic British rock being well represented by The GT’s, performing hits from acts such as The Jam, Madness, The Who and The Kinks. Variety comes with the appearance of the Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society, Worcestershire vocal group Voices Unlimited and comedy ventriloquist Lachlan Werner. Entertainment will also be supplied by zany TV stars Timmy Mallet and Keith Chegwin. Branded as ‘England’s Greatest Family Festival’ Sunshine will also provide a ‘kidzone’ for 2014 with bouncy castles, zorbing, crazy golf, archery and a child friendly funfair. The family entertainment is rounded off with a fireworks extravaganza at the festivals close on the Sunday night.
