UPton Blues

Crowned ‘Best Free Blues Festival in the UK’, the Upton Blues Festival enters its 13th year this July, filling the town of Upton-Upon-Severn with soulful sounds and laid back crowds. From humble beginnings, staging a handful of performances in a small number of local pubs, the festival has now reached dizzying heights, its popularity seeing it sprawl to the very outskirts of the town. This year hosts almost 100 performances over the weekend, taking place across three outdoor main stages, 10 pub venues and even a boat stage. Despite its rapid growth it has stayed true to its roots, with every Upton Blues Festival gig still free to attend.

2014 Line Up

There are 17 confirmed acts taking to the three main stages over the course of the weekend, including names such as Larry Miller Band, The Spikedrivers, Hereford Soul Choir, Mitch Laddie and Benny Gallagher. The full main stage line up can be found on the official Upton Blues Festival website (www.uptonbluesfestival.org.uk) including links to each artist’s individual web page. As with every year that has gone before, the festival is keen to promote discovery and, as such, does not list specific performance venues and times. Organisers fully intend visitors to stumble upon an act they may not have seen if they were to follow an organised schedule, making Upton a celebration of Blues at its spontaneous best. Other acts appearing over the weekend will be listed on the website in due course.

Upton; the ‘Town of Festivals’

Upton-Upon-Severn may be a small, quintessential English town but it has gained a deserved reputation as the ‘Town of Festivals’. June hosts this year’s 29th annual Jazz Festival with over 60 concerts staged over three days, whilst Folk music took centre stage back in May. July focuses on the Blues and August pays homage to all things Pop with the newly rebranded Sunshine Music Festival (formerly known as the Upton Music Festival) entering its fifth year. With such a fantastic summer line up of events, Upton is a haven for music lovers countrywide.
