Christmas has well and truly arrived and here at the Days Inn Durham, we’re getting excited about welcoming guests to the beautiful city of Durham. This historic city is enchanting at Christmas time; the castle and cathedral form a stunning backdrop, the cobbled streets provide fantastic shopping and the city’s best attractions host some wonderful events.

We’ve picked four of the best festive events taking place this December:

Christmas at Beamish

Step back in time this Christmas at Beamish Museum and enjoy a fun-packed festive day out for all the family. Until the 30th December, families can enjoy the delights of Christmas by joining in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian celebrations at Beamish. Not only is the museum open to explore, guests can enjoy the real outdoor ice rink, Santas Grotto, craft stalls and some delicious treats including fresh bread, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

The Polar Express at Weardale Railway

For the first time ever in the UK, you and your family can climb aboard The Polar Express! Inspired by the hit Warner Bros. film, you can enjoy a very special train ride at The Weardale Railway, taking a magical round-trip journey to the North Pole. Watch as the story comes to life, meet Santa and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies!

Prince Bishop River Cruiser Santa Cruises

Take time out and enjoy a tour through Durham city on The Prince Bishop River Cruiser. The children will also get to visit Santa in his grotto and receive a special gift!

Late Night Shopping at Dalton Park

Enjoy shopping at the fabulous Dalton Park for even longer this Christmas! The outlet shopping centre will be open until 8pm every weekday in December up until Christmas Eve. That means you have much more time to shop for some fantastic fashion, home and festive gifts, all available at up to 50% off normal high street prices. You can also take the kids to meet Santa in his Grotto.
