Chester’s contribution to this year’s music festival season takes place from the 6th to the 8th June, with the most eclectic line-up to date appearing at Chester Rocks 2014. A mix of pop, indie and urban sounds kick starts on Friday 6th with one of the UK’s top garage artists, Dizzee Rascal, topping the bill.

Friday’s Urban Collective

The first headlining act of the weekend, Dizzee Rascal began his career as a grime artist, making substantial headway for the genre winning accolades such as the Mercury Music Prize in 2003. Nowadays Dizzee will happily admit to falling into the mainstream pop category with hits such as ‘Dance wiv Me’ and ‘Bonkers’ skyrocketing to number one in the UK charts. Appearing alongside Dizzee Rascal in Friday’s line-up will be a DJ set from Nick Douwma, otherwise known as Sub Focus, one of electronic music’s most prominent current acts. Also taking the stage, rising star Fuse ODG will perform his unique urban style with its heavy African influences.

Indie Saturday

The second day of the festival, Saturday takes on an indie flavour with a series of local bands joining The Feeling and The Hoosiers in support of headlining act, Razorlight. Independent artists The Hoosiers, who split from record label Sony in 2011, will be showcasing their latest studio album “The News from Nowhere” whilst London five piece The Feeling will delight with their catchy blend of indie pop. The hugely successful Razorlight will be taking to the stage in celebration of the 10 year anniversary since the release of their debut album “Up All Night”, with front man Johnny Borrell continuing his love affair with UK electric rock.

Sunday goes Pop

The third and final day of Chester Rocks 2014 is a celebration of all things pop. The Big Reunion and Nineties Summer Party will showcase some of the most memorable pop talents of the nineties and noughties. Fresh from the hit ITV2 show, bands including Atomic Kitten, 911, A1, Honeyz and 5ive will escort the audience down memory lane with a collection of sing-a-long chart toppers from decades past.
