Forest Live 2014

Part of a growing phenomenon known as ‘Boutique Festivals’, the Eden Festival is Scotland’s answer to these small, intimate and alternative artistic summer gatherings. Originally an offshoot of the Wickerman Festival, Eden is now a well-established, stand-alone event now running in its 6th year. Held in the beautiful Raehills Meadows in Dumfries and Galloway, this year’s Eden Festival runs from the 12th – 15th June.

From Humble Beginnings

Beginning life in 2002 as a small side project to Scotland’s Wickerman Festival, what was then known as the Eden Zone originally offered dance and chill out tents centred around a large garden area. 13 years later and the project stands as one of the UK’s premier Boutique Festivals. These smaller alternatives to the world’s better known super festivals offer the chance for local acts to display their talents to an intimate crowd. In particular, the Eden Festival encourages participation from the young people of Dumfries and Galloway, not just in terms of performance but in all aspects of its organisation and execution. Whilst Eden may not be the place to catch a glimpse of worldwide superstars, it is a warm and welcoming environment in which to discover hidden gems, with something on offer for all ages and tastes.

Eclectic Eden

The Eden Festival spreads its eclectic offerings across nine stages, from the Devorgilla Open Air stage hosting the weekends headlining acts, to the trance haven of Voltans Psychedelic Temple. The Furry Chillium Cocktail Bar welcomes you with its mix of reggae, ska, brass, swing and acoustic performances, whilst dance lovers can find every sub-genre under the sun on offer at the Ghilli Dhu Dance Emporium. For a truly authentic Scottish experience head to Rabbies Tavern for local drinks and live Celtic music. When the weekends activities become too much, The Vishnu Lounge is on hand to help you unwind in its swinging hammocks and ambient atmosphere.

New For 2014

The Eden Festival 2014 hosts three new additions to its already eclectic and established line up, providing even more choice of entertainment for its pleasantly small crowds. The Melodrome Theatre will play host to a range of stage performances including comedy and theatre shows before turning into an exclusive, invite only dance club in the hours of darkness. The Lost Disco is the festivals late night party arena, an outdoor dance club opening its doors at midnight every night. Finally, this year sees the quirky addition of a drive in cinema, complete with permanent vehicles from vintage cars to boats, for you to relax and enjoy the festivals range of chosen films.
